Tech Capital of the World

South Korea the produces the most cellphones in the world, it is the 6th largest automobile manufacturer, and its healthcare system ranked 1st on the planet. Whether it’s software that can predict heart attacks, roads that charge electronic vehicles, 270 degree theaters or instant text-to-braille software, Korea and its capital city Seoul has well deserved their title: the World’s Most Wired City. In this STEAM school trip to Korea we take an in-depth look at how Korea came by its titles and what it is about her people that continually drive it into the world’s technological spotlight.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Incheon Airport and meet your guide. After check-in, tour the trendy area of Myeongdong – the centrifuge of fashion in Korea. Go for a stroll along the Han River to take in the Seoul skyline. Relax in the evening by enjoying a unique Beyond Classrooms activity: a squid games take on traditional Korean Board Games.

Day 2

Start the day at Gyeongbok Palace and finish your tour by witnessing the change of Guards ceremony. Switch centuries and zoom forward to the future at the Samsung D’light exhibition center. Next, head to Korea’s financial district to take in the hustle and bustle of Korea’s industrial fintech scene. Finish the day with a meaningful Q&A session with a real tech business owner in Korea.

Day 3

Transfer to Daejeon on the fast train (1 hour). Daejeon is home to over 200 R&D centers and is known as South Korea’s R&D capital. Daejeon is also home to KAIST, one of the world’s leading engineering universities. Korea’s technological successes are led by its people, after touring KAIST, meeting their university students to learn about what research they are working on and what it’s like to go to a STEM specific university.  

Make a stop at a Museum dedicated to technology, the ICT museum.  Enjoy the rest of the day at Daejeon’s science expo park

Day 4

Transfer back to Seoul on the fast train (1 hour). Head up to Lotte World Tower a skyscraper that is 123 stories high and is currently the 6th tallest building in the world (optional). 

South Korea is known for its healthcare system. Why does it consistently rank as having the top healthcare system in the world? Find out with an insider tour given by one of Seoul’s top medical administrators.  

Dinner is DIY at a traditional Korean kitchen where we learn how to cook a range of delicious delicacies.

Day 5

Part of Korea’s strength in ICT has to do with its conflict ridden modern history. We go north to do a DMZ Tour where we learn more about North-South relations. The DMZ tour includes a visit to the 3rd tunnel, Imjingak, Dorasan Observatory and Tongilchon (Unification Village). 

Day 6

Free time at Gangnam Coex, the world’s largest underground shopping complex it has everything from sunlit libraries to movie theaters to aquariums and concert halls. Then, travel back in time at the Namsan Hanok Village – remodeled after the traditional houses of Joseon Dynasty, this village allows you to get a taste of the traditional life while escaping from the bustling city life of modern times. Dress up in traditional Hanbok for some final Korean memories (and photos!) on your last day. Finally, we head to N Seoul Tower for a spectacular nighttime views of Seoul city
